Hangman
Category: loading…
Wrong guesses remaining: 6
1Aim of the Game
Guess every letter in the hidden word before you run out of allowed wrong guesses. A category hint is shown to help narrow down possibilities.
2How to Play
Click a letter on the on-screen keyboard, or type it on your physical keyboard. Correct letters fill in their blanks; incorrect letters add a stage to the figure and use up one of your six attempts.
3Scoring
Hangman is win-or-lose rather than points-based: you win by revealing the full word with wrong guesses to spare, and lose if the figure is completed before you do.
4Attempts Allowed
You get six wrong guesses per round before the game ends. Correct guesses never count against your total, so take your time thinking through less obvious letters.
Hangman strategy: which letters to guess first
In English, the letters E, A, R, I, O, T, N, and S appear most frequently across common words. Starting with vowels and these high-frequency consonants tends to reveal the most letters early, giving you a much stronger position before you start guessing rarer letters like J, Q, X, or Z.
- Guess vowels first — most words contain at least one, often more.
- Use the category hint to rule out unlikely letter combinations.
- Once a few letters are revealed, look for common word patterns and endings like "-ING," "-ED," or "-ER."
- Save rare letters like Q, X, and Z for later, once the word's shape is clearer.
A classic game, reimagined for the browser
Hangman has been a paper-and-pencil classic for generations. This version keeps the same simple rules while adding instant visual feedback, keyboard support, and a fresh word and category every round, so you can play as many rounds as you like without ever running out of new puzzles.
